Did you know that actuary has been consistently rated as the #1 job on the Wall Street Journal? Career prospects for actuaries are on the rise as their ability to evaluate the financial impact of risk on organizations is being increasingly valued. If you enjoy working with numbers, possess strong analytic and communication skills, and are interested in a lucrative career in the business world, consider the actuarial science concentration or the actuarial minor!
Penn Actuarial Society is a resource for the actuarial community at Penn, both those in the concentration as well as other students interested in the career path. We aim to provide our members opportunities to network with actuaries in the field, connections to prominent actuarial companies, and resources and encouragement for the examination process. Above all, we hope to assist students in beginning their actuarial career as well as raise awareness of the profession at Penn.
In the past, we have hosted information sessions with representatives from the Society of Actuaries and corporations within the insurance and consulting industries such as CIGNA, AXA, New York Life, Buck Consultants and Towers Watson. We have also brought in actuaries from JP Morgan to tell our members how the knowledge and skill sets that actuaries possess can be applied in non-traditional roles. Additionally, we have organized mock interviews, preparatory classes for the financial derivatives portion of exam FM/2 and held a number of social events for our members.
